How to choose books for examination?


The selection of right books while preparing for any exam is of utmost importance. It is one of the determining factor of how do you crack the exam? Your strategy for the exam preparation will be largely depending on this factor. Especially, in University level and in case of competitive examinations like IAS, you have to prepare notes on your own. A wrong selection of book can mar your career. Therefore, before you choose and start devoting your precious time and energy, at first do important research and choose right collection of books.

Consult teachers and students: This is one of the best options to locate or identify a right book. Consult your teachers and classmates about the best book that are available in the market related to your subject and syllabus. This time-tested technique could save you the last moment anxiety and tension.

Latest Books: Always go for latest edition books. Usually it has been seen that a student do not take care about the year of publication of the book. Whether the book is the latest edition, or it is the previous edition, least cares the student. But it affects the preparation for the examination as the old edition book might not contain the latest content.

Follow your intuition: Sometimes the book, which is highly referred by teachers as well as by your friends may not be useful to you. Just discard the book from your bookshelf. Go for a book that is up to your comprehension and easy for you to understand. Just follow your intuition.

Collaborated knowledge: Join in Orkut and discussion forums related to the exam or the course you are pursuing. If you are preparing for IGNOU, IIT, NIOS or CBSE examination, join in these forums and communities. It might be very helpful to come to a decision on choosing the right kind of book.
